Loughborough Canal Festival

Last week's blogpost was a bit wordy, so this week I'm going to restrict myself to uploading a few photos from this weekend's canal festival! Apparently, this annual event has been going for 17 years, and is always very popular, even when the weather is not so good.

Luckily, this weekend, the weather was fantastic, sunny but not too hot. The boats were out in force, some moored for the duration of the festival, others passing through on their journey, as were the people! Stalls abounded - food stalls, books stalls, second-hand stalls, jewellery and craft stalls, and fund-raising stalls. There were games and entertainment, things for adults and things for children.

The pubs at each end - The Boat in the Leicester direction, and The Albion in the Kegworth direction - were both doing a roaring trade, as was the Basin!

  1. Wow how things have changed since I left Loughborough in 1968. When did the Canal Carnival start?

    1. Hi Anonymous! I think the canal festival began around 1997, and was very popular, but eventually stopped around 2016, I think. Thank you for reading the blog. Lynne
