Spotlight on Ashby Road 2023 Even Numbers

Last week we looked at some of the properties on Ashby Road that bore odd numbers. This came about because back in August 2013 I had taken a trip down Ashby Road, photographing the beautiful houses, some of the architectural detail, and the area in general. I also briefly looked into the history of some of the houses, and who had lived in them, all of which led to a blog post in October 2013. So, today let's look at those buildings along Ashby Road with even numbers! Some of the shops will follow next week!

Here's what I saw – I’ll try and show you a photo from 2013 next to one from 2023, although in all honesty I didn't share many pictures in 2013, so I've supplemented these with some from 2020! We'll start at the lower-numbered end of the street!

Here we see the run of houses from the dental practice on the corner of Radmoor Road, no.150, in 2023

You may not be able to tell, but the gate piers from 2013 have been replaced with new ones!

The following properties, photographed in 2023, are from no.154 to no.182 - Victorian properties, 1930s ones, 1950s ones, and newer!

And here we go back to substantial Victorian detached properties.

  1. I understand that the house at the junction of Ashby Road and Epinal Way was the home of Dr Jenner who used to practice in the town. I think his surgery was on the Bedford square Victoria Street junction.

    1. Hello Anonymous! Absolutely right! Dr Roy Maurice Jenner (1909-1980) lived at number 152 (the house next door to the house (now a dentist) at the junction with Radmoor Road) when he first came to Loughborough (around early 1940s) before moving to number 216 (right on the corner of the Ashby Road/Epinal Way roundabout) sometime before 1959. He did have the surgery on Victoria Street where the 1980s flats are now. Thank you for reading the blog! Lynne
