Humble is another of those words which could be interpreted in a variety of ways. I’ve chosen to use it to mean unassuming, so not showy. Here are the transcriptions of the memorial stones, together with a photograph or two.
This first memorial stone is in the churchyard of All Saints with Holy Trinity. It's clear from the stone against which it leans, that it is considerably smaller than those around it.
John son of
Thos Wilford
died 18th May
1756
aged 18 months
The following memorial stones are to be found in the old cemetery on Leicester Road. Again, this next memorial stone is considerably smaller than those that are nearby.
In loving
Memory of
Jane Tyler
died 12th Aug
1937
aged 54
years.
Also of
Her beloved
husband
John Henry
Killed in action
9th Nov 1917
aged 37 years
John Henry Tyler was killed fighting in the First World War, and his story is told on the Loughborough Roll of Honour, being the last-but-one entry on the webpage.
Although the stones closest to this memorial are broken and thus lying flat, it is clear this memorial is smaller than many of the others.
In loving
Memory of
a dear wife &
mother
Harriet Smith
who died
21st Feb 1938
aged 54 years
Also Nellie
beloved
daughter of
above
who died
3rd March
1912
aged 4 years
Another small memorial stone.
In loving
memory of
Cecil George
Taylor (Ben)
died 22nd Feb
1952
aged 55 years
“Good-night
God bless you”
Also his loving
wife
Mabel
died 23rd May
1983
Re-united
