All the fun of the 800th fair! Part 1

After a year without a Loughborough fair, this year there has been a big build-up to what is the last travelling fair of the season. And, this year, Loughborough celebrates the 800th year of the granting of the fair charter, along, of course, with the market charter.

Part of the build-up to the fair has been the exhibition in the Town Hall, put on by and with the Fairground Association of Great Britain. The Sock Gallery, with its white display space, is the perfect indoor area to showcase the vibrant artwork associated with fairs. The artwork is accompanied by some of the history of the Association and some of the regular families associated with the fair, as well as real and model fairground attractions. In addition, visitors are presented with an opportunity to take a selfie with 'Kelly'!

If you haven't already been along, I'd highly recommend it - but roll up, roll up, for the exhibition closes on 18th November!

I asked, and was granted permission, to take some pictures, so here's a few photographs to tempt you to go along to the exhibition, or to see what was on show if you're not able to pop along yourself. In my next post, I'll share some photos of the actual fair!
